Turmeric gets its yellow colour from curcumin, the active ingredient. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may help in the control of blood sugar levels and with arthritis. Turmeric on its own does not absorb well into the bloodstream and having a curry once a month will not give you the desired results. But, it seems, when combined with black pepper, the turmeric becomes more bio-available.
This makes enough for 1 person.
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons honey
Add all ingredients to a small pot. Whisk together and heat over high heat. When the tea just starts to boil, turn the heat down to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
